Highlights

Lodge at Via Via

Arrive Entebbe

Whatever time you arrive, day or night, you will need somewhere to stay. We will meet you on arrival at Entebbe Airport and transfer you to a local hotel, most probably Via Via. We also include dinner and breakfast next morning. And if you have some time on your hands during the day, we are happy to suggest some things to do and perhaps recommend some local bars and restaurants.

Walk with Rhinos

Meet and greet over breakfast at Via Via with briefing and bike issue. Suit up for mid-morning departure.

Ride the main north road via Kampala to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Enjoy a late lunch, followed by a walk with the rhinos. Guided trek in the wilds with the white rhino of Ziwa. Learn all about the rhino and the ambitious re-introduction programme to the wilds of Uganda.

Relax in the late afternoon or take an optional birding or nature walk.

Camp Night

Camp at Ziwa Wildlife Sanctuary. Dinner, drinks and campfire banter. Good chance to see the rhinos promenading around the (very strong) campsite fence.

Camp at Red Chilli Restcamp

Murchison Falls

Ride north west from Ziwa to Murchison Falls National Park and visit the top of Murchison Falls. Feel the power and stand in the spray! Dry out with a truck lunch in the car park by the Nile rapids.

Ride to Red Chilli Restcamp where we will relax and set up camp for the night. Jump on a safari truck and enjoy an evening game drive to the savanna plains of Murchison. See elephant, buffalo, giraffe, warthog and many different antelope in their native environment. Perhaps lion and. leopard in the hunting grounds down by the Nile Delta.

Camp at Red Chilli Restcamp. Chill out bar and restaurant. Lodge fire and views over the Nile Basin.

Into the Wilderness

Depart Red Chilli, crossing the Nile for a game ride along the old park trail, exiting the park through the far northeast gate at Purongo. Ride north through increasingly remote terrain, stopping for lunch at the busy town of  Gulu.

Beautiful afternoon ride by road then trail across the north of Uganda, heading deeper and deeper into the wilderness of Kidepo and the Karamojo Region.  Enjoy the ever-changing landscape as we pass through village after village, finally reaching the escarpment overlooking the valley of Kidepo.

Camp at Nga Mora

Kidepo Valley National Park

Leisurely lodge breakfast. Suit up and ride into the semi-arid savanna of Kidepo Valley National Park. Formed by the Narus and Kidepo Rivers, this is one of Africa’s best national parks. Beautiful scenery and vast herds of buffalo and elephant on the plains as well as many species of antelope and a birder’s paradise. Enjoy a game ride through the park, especially on the lookout for lion, leopard and, if really lucky, cheetah. Truck lunch at Kakine Lookout with 360 views over the valley.

Camp at Nga Mora Wilderness Lodge on the edge of Kidepo. Campfire banter beneath some of the brightest stars on the planet.

The Karamojong

Camp breakfast at Nga Mora, suit up and ride south through the Karamojo wilderness, amongst the manyatta (houses) and boma (compounds) of the charismatic Karamojong tribe. Pass through Kaabong and Kotido. This is a great trail with wondrous rock formations and majestic volcanoes rising out of the plains.

Afternoon community visit to Karamoja Nomadic Cattle Kraal. Meet the Karimojong and experience the life of a nomadic cattle herder.

Camp on the Edge, Sipi

Sipi Falls

Farewell to the Karamoja. Ride south by road and trail to ascend Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano with the largest caldera in the world and one of the highest mountains in Africa.

Lunch at Lacan Lodge with spectacular views, including the Lower Sipi Falls. Afternoon visit to the Upper Sipi Falls and trek down the mountainside to the Middle Sipi Falls, returning by boda boda motorcycle taxi to rejoin the bikes. Stop for a while at a community coffee processing facility. Roast your own beans and learn all about coffee production and its role in the local economy.

Camp on the edge with a campfire and spectacular views over the twinkling lights on the plains below.

Source of the Nile

Early breakfast on the edge at Sipi. Descend Mount Elgon and ride to Jinja for lunch overlooking the Nile at Lake Victoria: the Source of the Nile.

Ride over the Nile at Jinja for return journey to Entebbe. Enjoy the Kampala traffic en route!

Arrive at Via Via late afternoon. Bike inspection and return.
