Meanda UGANDA

At Meanda Uganda, our mission is simple. To give you the best experience of Uganda – your way.

By day, we show you the magic of Uganda – on and off the beaten track. Often going where others don’t.

By night, we like to camp – we do it in style in some fantastic locations. But we also like to mix it up with some great lodge nights. We call it overland – giving you the best of both worlds. And if you want to take it all up a notch – check out our Moto Tours.

We wanted to visit my sister, who worked in Uganda, and then see as much of the country as possible. Meanda Uganda gave us exactly that at a fair price.

Nick quickly put together a fantastic route that included Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Mount Elgon, and Jinja. When my sister’s workplace suddenly changed from Gulu to Mubende, he adjusted the pick-up location and dates without any problem.
From start to finish, the communication was great, and Nick always responded very quickly!

We travelled in an RV with a rooftop tent. It was very comfortable and felt safe. Some nights we camped inside national parks, and sometimes stayed in lodges. The RV’s fridge and freezer kept plenty of fresh food and cold drinks.

Nick is very friendly and has a good sense of humour. He makes you feel like you are travelling with a friend rather than being just a customer. Every day, he adapted the plan to our pace and to any new circumstances.

I highly recommend Meanda Uganda if you want a real, off-the-beaten-track Uganda trip done safely and comfortably!

Hard to adequately describe the epic tour, that fully captures the excitement and exhilaration, that was run by Meanda Uganda. Nick, our tour guide, could not have provided a more interesting, challenging, rewarding, educational and, literally, life changing experience.

Without providing a full map of Uganda we basically covered the full list of National Parks and links between. Nick was as hands on or light touch as we needed, skilfully assessing our experience and confidence (which grew daily) without ever over stretching us. We managed to see close up the ‘Big Five’, which I am certain was down to Nick’s local knowledge and extensive research, and no doubt we would have completely missed on our own.

From the start we felt part of a new family group, with all home comforts provided as part of the package. Early breakfasts watching the sun rise, travelling to each checkpoint with full commentary of the local areas, parks, history, wildlife, evening meals around a campfire under the stars is an experience never forgotten.

I can’t recommend Meanda Uganda more highly if you want the full ‘once in a lifetime’ experience.

A dining experience in a lodge in Uganda.

I had never been to Uganda or Africa for that matter and had no idea what to expect. I knew Nick previously and knew of his taste for adventure so I knew I would be in good hands.

The trip started well in advance of the arrival date with discussions of what I would like to see and experience and what I wanted to get out of the trip. A few Skype calls and exchanges of information and the dates were set.

I arrived and was picked up at the airport and directly to the guest house for the first evening, dinner at the best Irish bar in Entebbe and an early start the next morning with Nick as our guide in the 4×4. Our trip was conducted over 8 days, and started with Lake Mburo National park full of wild life on every turn. Next day was on to Bwindi Impenetrable Forrest passing through towns and villages, and a visit to the gorillas which was booked in advance for us. The following days rolled on with river and park safaris accessed by dirt roads, some right off the beaten track, amazing view points, and wonderful wildlife encounters.

Our nights were spent either camping in luxurious roof tents, some opted for ground tents and some nights in lodges, mostly in National reserves so super safe and exciting.

Overall I have to say Nick brings a wonderful insight to this amazing country, with his in depth knowledge of its history and its nature. It was more like a road trip with an old friend, discovering this wonderful place. We did a clockwise trip passing lake Edward and lake Albert, experiencing Murchison Falls and wildlife park and cutting across to ZIWA to see the rhino sanctuary and crossing the Nile at Jinja.

There is so much to see an do and no better person to go on this adventure with than Nick and the Meanda Uganda Team. Our overlander vehicle was incredible well equipped, with a fridge and freezing, cooker and shower, so meals were a joy, and nothing better than enjoying a sundowner with ice and lemon in absolutely the middle of nowhere. Thank you again.
