Walk with Rhinos

Meet and greet over breakfast at Via Via with briefing and bike issue. Suit up for mid-morning departure.

Ride north via Kampala to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for late lunch and an afternoon walk with the rhinos. Learn about this inspiring programme to reintroduce the white rhino into the wilds of Uganda.

Relax in the late afternoon or take an optional birding or nature walk.

Camp Night

Camp at Ziwa Wildlife Sanctuary. An introduction to our fabulous camp set up and if lucky, a good chance to see the rhinos promenading around the (very strong) campsite fence.

Camp at Red Chili Restcamp

Murchison Falls

Early breakfast. Depart Ziwa riding north-west to Murchison Falls National Park. Visit to the top of Murchison Falls. Feel the power and stand in the spray! Dry out with a truck lunch in the car park by the Nile rapids.

Ride to Red Chili Restcamp where we will set up camp for the night. Late afternoon and evening game drive in custom safari vehicle to the savanna plains of Murchison. See elephant, buffalo, giraffe, warthog and many different antelope in their native environment. Perhaps lion and. leopard in the hunting grounds.

Camp Night

Camp at Red Chili Restcamp. Chill out bar and restaurant. Lodge fire and views over the Nile Basin.

West Nile

Early breakfast at Red Chili and short ride to the boat dock for a Nile boat safari to the base of the Murchison Falls. Hippos in the water, elephants and crocs on the banks, birds everywhere. Return to Red Chilli for lunch.

Afternoon, depart Red Chili riding north through the park, watching out for wildlife as we go. Depart Murchison Falls National Park. Ride across the Nile on the old rail bridge at Pakwach, heading into the remote West Nile region.

Camp by the Nile

Nile Ferry

Leisurely breakfast at White Castle. Suit up and depart by road and trail along the borderlands with DR Congo and South Sudan. This is a remote and little travelled area. Late lunch at Moyo. Ride down to the Nile after lunch and cross the Nile by ferry – an essential part of any African roadtrip and a great opportunity to mingle with local culture.

Into the Wilderness

Early camp breakfast. Suit up and ride by road and track, heading east across the remote north of Uganda into the wilderness of Kidepo, stopping at Kitgum for a local lunch. Enjoy the ever-changing landscape as we pass through village after village, finally reaching the wilderness of Kidepo.

Lodge at Kidepo Savannah Lodge. Enjoy a well-earned rest after a long day.

Camp at Nga Mora

Kidepo Valley National Park

Leisurely lodge breakfast. Suit up and ride into the semi-arid savanna of Kidepo Valley National Park. Formed by the Narus and Kidepo Rivers, this is one of Africa’s best national parks. Beautiful scenery and vast herds of buffalo and elephant on the plains as well as many species of antelope and a birder’s paradise. Transfer to custom safari vehicle for a game safari, especially on the lookout for lion, leopard and, if really lucky, cheetah. Truck lunch at Kakine Lookout with 360 views over the valley. Return to collect bikes and ride to Nga Mora.

Camp at Nga Mora Wilderness Lodge on the edge of Kidepo. Campfire banter beneath some of the brightest stars on the planet.

The Karamojong

Early camp breakfast at Nga Mora. Suit up and depart south through the Karamojo region, amongst the manyatta (houses) and boma (compounds) of the charismatic Karamojong tribe. Pass through Kaabong and Kotido. This is a great trail with wondrous rock formations and majestic volcanoes rising out of the plains.

Lunch at the Karatunga Community Resthouse at Moroto.

Afternoon community visit to Karamoja Nomadic Cattle Kraal. Meet the Karimojong and experience the life of a nomadic cattle herder.

Camp Night

Camp with the Karimojong Warrior Nomads at the Kraal, with the usual support truck facilities. Unique and unforgettable experience.

Camp on the Edge, Sipi

Sipi Falls

Farewell to the Karamoja. Ride south by road and trail to ascend Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano with the largest caldera in the world and one of the highest mountains in Africa.

Lunch at Lacan Lodge with spectacular views, including the Lower Sipi Falls. Afternoon visit to the Upper Sipi Falls and trek down the mountainside to the Middle Sipi Falls, returning by boda boda motorcycle taxi to rejoin the bikes. Stop for a while at a community coffee processing facility. Roast your own beans and learn all about coffee production and its role in the local economy.

Camp on the edge with a campfire and spectacular views over the twinkling lights on the plains below.

Source of the Nile

Early breakfast on the edge at Sipi. Descend Mount Elgon and ride to Jinja for lunch overlooking the Nile at Lake Victoria: the Source of the Nile.

Ride over the Nile at Jinja for return journey to Entebbe. Enjoy the Kampala traffic en route!

Arrive at Via Via late afternoon. Bike inspection and return.
