Highlights

Lodge at Via Via

Arrive Entebbe

Whatever time you arrive, day or night, you will need somewhere to stay. We will meet you on arrival at Entebbe Airport and transfer you to your hotel, Via Via, all inclusive of dinner and breakfast the next morning. And if you have some time on your hands, we are happy to suggest some things to do and perhaps recommend some local bars and restaurants.

Into the Wild

Meet and greet over breakfast at Via Via with briefing followed by bike issue. Suit up for mid-morning departure.

Short ride to the bustling Nakiwogo Fishing Village for a ferry crossing – a great start to any African adventure. Ride some easy trails to become familiar with the bike and join the main road south to the Equator where we will stop for lunch and make any necessary adjustments.

Continue by road to Lake Mburo National Park, the smallest of four savanna parks in Uganda. Enjoy a late afternoon game ride into the park with great trails, beautiful scenery and a first taste of African wildlife: zebra, impala, waterbuck, warthog and perhaps giraffe.

Into the Hills

Early morning game ride at Lake Mburo. Take some of the wildlife trails to see what we can see and ascend Kazuma Lookout for breakfast at the support truck with spectacular views over the surroundings.

Depart Lake Mburo heading into the hills and forests of south-west Uganda with a lunch-stop en route. Take a short detour on the breathtaking lakeside trail alongside the mystical Lake Bunyonyi, one of the most beautiful lakes in Africa.

Continue by road over the mountain pass to Kisoro with views to the many volcanoes marking the borders with Rwanda and DR Congo.

Into the Jungle

Leisurely camp breakfast and return over the mountain pass, taking the forest trail into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park – otherwise known as “jungle”. Beautiful trail through the hillside villages, ascending into the mountains at 2500m before heading to Buhoma at the heart of Mountain Gorilla country.

Perhaps take an extra day here and do a trek to see the mountain gorillas? – or go whitewater rafting through the jungle on the Birira River?

Camp by Lake George

Rift Valley

Continue on forest and savanna trails to the Kazinga Channel, a unique Rift Valley feature at the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Keep an eye out for wildlife including elephant, buffalo and antelope. If lucky, perhaps the famous tree climbing lions in the trees near the track.

Rest up for lunch at the boat dock, followed by a ride up the Rift Valley escarpment for a coffee stop overlooking the twin crater lakes at Kichwamba.

Return to the Kazinga Channel in the late afternoon and take the Kasenyi trail through Queen Elizabeth National Park to camp on Lake George. Great trail for wildlife including elephant, hippo, buffalo and antelope.

Camp Night

Camp lakeside at Kasenyi Village Retreat. Dinner and campfire banter in the wild. Hippos, antelope, perhaps elephant.

The Rwenzori

Depart Kasenyi Retreat after a leisurely camp breakfast. Return on the Kasenyi trail and on to visit the Katwe Salt Lake to see the elephants. Head north along the base of the Rwenzori Mountains, the fabled Mountains of the Moon with 6 of the highest peaks in Africa. Rest up in Kasese for lunch.

Continue to Fort Portal with a short detour along trails through the Kasenda Crater Lakes, a unique feature of the Rift Valley landscape.

Camp at Whispering Palms, a peaceful haven in the heart of Fort Portal. Perhaps a night on the town?

Murchison River Lodge

Road to Murchison

Leisurely camp breakfast. Suit up and depart Fort Portal for the ride to Murchison Falls National Park. Beautiful road, meandering through tea plantations, around rock crested hills and eventually the escarpment dropping down to Lake Albert. We’ll take it easy and enjoy the journey, stopping for lunch at Hoima en route.

Lodge at Murchison River Lodge. Relax after a long day’s ride.

Murchison Falls

Leave the bikes for a while and jump on a safari truck for an early morning game drive into the savanna plains of Murchison Falls National Park. See elephant, giraffe and buffalo on the plains amongst the antelope. A great time to see lion and perhaps leopard in their hunting grounds.

Return to the River Lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon ride to the top of Murchison Falls – one of the most powerful waterfalls on earth – the Nile squeezed through a 7-metre wide gap and dropping almost 50 metres to the river below.

Continue on to exit the park and head by road to Masindi and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Camp at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Campfire, dinner and drinks. Look out for rhinos around the (very strong) fence.

Rhinos at Ziwa

Leisurely camp breakfast followed by a rhino trek. Walk with the white rhinos at Ziwa and learn about this inspirational programme to return them to the wild. 

Lunch at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary before joining the road for the ride back to Entebbe. Enjoy the traffic as we head around the outskirts of the capital city, Kampala. Arrive Entebbe late afternoon.
