Arrive Entebbe

Whatever time you arrive, you will need somewhere to stay. Arriving early morning after a night flight you will need somewhere to rest and recover. Arriving late, the last thing you want on your mind is: Where am I going to stay? In either case, we will meet you on arrival at Entebbe Airport and transfer you to a local hotel, most probably Via Via. We also include dinner and breakfast next morning. And if you have some time on your hands during the day, we are happy to suggest some things to do and perhaps recommend some local bars and restaurants.

Lodge Night

Chill out at Via Via, Entebbe

Into The Wild

Breakfast meet and greet at your hotel with tour briefing. Load up and depart to nearby to Nakiwogo Fishing village for a short ferry crossing – without which, no tour of Africa should be complete.

Transfer to Mabamba Swamp for a boat safari to search for the legendary shoebill stork and an early introduction to Uganda’s amazing birdlife.

Continue to the Equator for lunch. Afternoon journey to Lake Mburo. When we get there, we will take a game drive into the park. An excellent place to see zebra, impala, giraffe, warthog, buffalo and maybe a leopard if lucky.

Camp Night

Camp down by the lake with the hippos. Drinks, dinner, stars.

Depart Lake Mburo heading into the hills and on to the mystical Lake Bunyonyi with spectacular lakeside trail around the contorted shoreline and with views to some of the 29 islands.

Continue into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (aka “jungle”) on scenic trail through the densely forested mountains. This is gorilla country.

Lodge Night

Agandi Eco Lodge, Ruhija. Magnificent sunset views. Chilly night – lodge fire and a hot water bottle?

Mountain Gorillas. Lions in Trees

Early breakfast and transfer to Ruhija Gorilla HQ for mountain gorilla trek. Cultural dancing and briefing, followed by a jungle trek of typically 1 to 2 hours to spend an hour with our close cousins. Unforgettable!

Welaba!

Seize the day with an early breakfast and head out for a final dawn game drive to see what we can see. A last chance perhaps to see the elephants, buffalos, kob and other wildlife in their native environment, and perhaps lion and leopard at work in their hunting grounds. If you prefer, we could head to the nearby Kyambura Gorge for a chimpanzee trek?

Either way, we will then commence the return journey to Entebbe, heading back across the Equator and along the base of the Rwenzori Mountains: the fabled Mountains of the Moon, containing six of Africa’s highest peaks.

We will stop for lunch in Fort Portal before the long drive back to Entebbe – with a rest stop or two en route, aiming to arrive well before dark.

We don’t include final night accommodation because there are normally too many variables, such as Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja or even Entebbe Airport for a late flight home. Either way, we are happy to make recommendations and to drop you off at your chosen end point.
