Why Camping In Uganda?

Well, perhaps to start with, the weather here is fantastic and there is something very special about sitting out under the stars with a campfire in the African night – especially if you know all the right places.

But way before that, there is a phrase here. TIA. “This Is Africa”. At best it means – things do not always go according to plan. Or at worst – they rarely do! So how about being totally independent, self-reliant…

…and if you are, then just imagine the freedom and the opportunity that gives you to explore Uganda, the Pearl of Africa!

Camping in Uganda

For us, camping in Uganda is about filling your senses with Africa and enjoying the fun and freedom of being independent. But how to do that in comfort and style?

We operate private, overland support vehicles, complete with driver and guide to escort you in comfort and safety on your chosen Ugandan safari. But what is an overland support vehicle?

We spent years developing what we believe to be the ideal vehicle to go anywhere in comfort and then effortlessly deliver the ideal camping experience. And then do it again, and again… Sound easy?

As we say, the weather here is fantastic, so firstly, we want you to be ‘out there’, in the open, trusting the elements under the stars, not couped up inside a truck or a van.

Second, we need to be independent and self-reliant, so we need power, water; somewhere to cook and to eat; somewhere to wash and to change; and somewhere to sleep – and to do it all well, without compromise!

And thirdly, we need to get there in comfort and safety. Able to penetrate the toughest, off-grid locations – and get back!

One of the top highlights is a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, a haven for hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. It is also our favourite place for a chimpanzee trek into the beautiful Kyambura Gorge and with over 600 recorded bird species is one of the best places for birding in Africa.

So to get there, our overland support vehicle is a Toyota – the only vehicle to have here in East Africa. And a Hilux – with an unburstable reputation for reliability and the toughest off-road, 4×4 capabilities.

Not only that, she comes with enhanced comfort and safety features, such as diff lock, traction and descent control, ABS, bull bars, driving lights, rear AC, enhanced suspension, fire extinguishers, first aid kit, compressor, and full recovery gear. Most importantly, she is in ‘new’ condition and excellently maintained.

Travel in comfort and safety. Get where we want to go – and get back!

And for camping, she has a custom designed and built rear canopy which enables your camping experience in comfort and style. What does this mean?

Home Comforts

And finally, she is full of surprises. A bar for that sundowner with ice and a slice of lemon; multiple lighting options and perhaps music to suit the need and the mood; layout space to sort out your gear; laundry and washing line; large awning for rain or shade; a BBQ for that special night.

Think of the possibilities. Stop anywhere and camp for the night. Stop anywhere and cook breakfast. Stop anywhere and grab a cold one.

Add Uganda and think about a campfire, stars above and the sounds of Africa.

And best of all? – it is mostly just us – with the hippos by the lake; at the cliff edge overlooking the plains; in the park with a ranger. Crackling campfire, chirruping crickets, chuckling hippos – and perhaps the odd roar in the distance! Africa.

So camping is a great way to truly experience Africa.

So camping is a great way to truly experience Africa. But we rarely camp every night. We like to pick and choose the best option for you. We typically camp for two or three nights then a night to recharge in one of our favourite lodges.
