Arrive Entebbe

Whatever time you arrive, you will need somewhere to stay. We will meet you on arrival at Entebbe Airport and transfer you to a local hotel, most probably Via Via. We also include dinner and breakfast next morning. And if you have some time on your hands during the day, we are happy to suggest some things to do and perhaps recommend some local bars and restaurants.

Into The Wild

Breakfast meet and greet at your hotel with tour briefing. Load up and depart to nearby Nakiwogo Fishing village for a short ferry crossing – without which, no tour of Africa should be complete.

Transfer to Mabamba Swamp for a boat safari to search for the legendary shoebill stork and enjoy an early introduction to Uganda’s amazing birdlife.

Continue on to the Equator for lunch and then to Lake Mburo National Park where we will take a game drive into the park in the early evening. This is a great place to see zebra, impala, giraffe, warthog and buffalo, and a great time of day, if lucky, to see leopard.

Camp Night

Camp down by the lake with the hippos. Beautiful spot. Drinks, dinner, campfire, stars.

Mountain Gorillas. Lions in Trees

Early breakfast at the lodge and transfer to Ruhija Gorilla HQ with a packed lunch for the mountain gorilla trek. Cultural dancing and briefing, followed by a jungle trek of typically 1 to 2 hours to spend an hour with our close cousins. An unforgettable experience and we will make sure you are well prepared.

Transfer upon return to Ishasha Wildlife Reserve for a late afternoon game drive. We will hope to see the tree climbing lions which are unique to this region and also to see elephant, buffalo, topi, Ugandan kob and so much more.  At the end of the game drive we will head down to the hippo pools on the Ishasha River border with DR Congo.

Queen Elizabeth

Enjoy a leisurely camp breakfast, followed by a morning game drive through the park to exit. Transfer along the Ishasha trail to the Kazinga Channel, a unique rift valley feature at the heart of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Relax with a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel to see elephant and buffalo on the banks amongst abundant aquatic and bird life including African fish eagle, Goliath heron and a multitude of kingfisher and weaver birds. Lunch at the boat dock.

Afternoon check-in to Bush Lodge for a relaxing afternoon on the verandah of your luxury banda overlooking Kazinga Channel. Or – a late afternoon game drive into the Kasenyi savanna plains of Queen Elizabeth on the shores of Lake George. Great place and time of day to see lion and perhaps leopard as well as many other of our now established friends.

Welaba!

Seize the day with an early breakfast and a visit to the nearby Kyambura Gorge for a trek to see the chimpanzees in the trees along the riverbed – a great experience and a chance to burn some energy before the long journey home.

One more thing before heading home – a short drive up the rift valley escarpment to enjoy magnificent views over the area and a visit to the twin crater lakes at Kichwamba for a snack lunch with a magnificent view.

Return journey in the early afternoon, heading back across the Equator and along the base of the Rwenzori Mountains: the fabled Mountains of the Moon, containing six of Africa’s highest peaks. We will pass through Fort Portal and have a rest stop or two en route, aiming to arrive well before dark.

We don’t include final night accommodation because there are normally too many variables, such as dropping you in Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja or even Entebbe Airport for a late flight home. Either way, we are happy to make recommendations and to drop you off at your chosen end point.
