Immersive

Camping in Uganda – whether it be in the wilderness, amongst the wildlife or in a stunning, scenic location – offers a raw, immersive experience that few other places in the world can match.

You’re not just near nature, you’re in it. Unfiltered. By day, a cacaphony of birdsong. By night, as you sit around the campfire, you may hear the roar of lions; a distant trumpeting of elephants or the grunting of hippos – and in the morning, monkeys!

Is it safe? Yes. We follow all the guidelines and engage rangers for wild camps.

Is it rough? No. That’s the fun part – our support vehicle provides all the comforts of home.

What Else?

So let’s take a closer look. Camping in Uganda brings you closer to nature. But what else?

Weather. Sat on the Equator at an average 1100m above sea level, the climate – year round – is superb, especially for camping. Never too hot: never too cold. Sometimes it rains – but not for long and we are well prepared.

Natural beauty. The scenery here is stunning, and everchanging with a rich diversity of landscapes and eco-systems: savanna, rift, forest, jungle, riverine, lakeshore, mountains, volcanoes, craters… So every location is a different kind of awesome. Something perhaps to do with the Pearl of Africa?

Unplugged. Camping strips the safari experience to its core. Authentic. Unplugged. Close encounters with wildlife and nature. Filling your senses with the sights, sounds and scents of Africa.

Culture. Camping puts us more in touch with Ugandan people and culture. Where possible we choose community camps, meeting real people and supporting local businesses and communities.

Starry skies. Step away from the campfire and look up! Uganda’s low light pollution means that the night skies are incredible. Piercing clarity – lose yourself in the Milky Way.

TIA. There is a phrase here. “This Is Africa”. At best it means – things do not always go according to plan.  Our overland camping style makes us independent, free and easy.

Underrated. This is the best bit. Uganda is often over-shadowed by it’s louder neighbours. Camping is often overlooked because for tour companies – lodges are easier! So when we’re out there – it’s mostly just us.

Comfort and Style

So for us, camping in Uganda is about filling your senses with Africa and enjoying the fun and freedom of being independent. But how to do that in comfort and style?

Meanda Uganda operate private, overland support vehicles, complete with driver and guide to escort you in comfort and safety on your chosen Ugandan safari. But what is an overland support vehicle?

We spent years developing what we believe to be the ideal vehicle to go anywhere in comfort and then effortlessly deliver the ideal camping experience. And then do it again, and again.

Our Toyota Hilux will get you there in comfort and safety and then set up for a camp night quickly and effortlessly:

  • comfy chairs and dining table
  • full kitchen and bar
  • hot shower and privacy cubicle
  • comfy roof tents with cosy bedding

And we are full of surprises: a sundowner with ice and a slice of lemon; a food menu of your choice; mood lighting and perhaps mood music? Layout space to sort out your gear; laundry; large awning for rain or shade; a BBQ for that special night…

Convinced?

If you like what you see, why not let us help you start planning your Ugandan adventure?
